D3 at Hilton

Since 2011, I’ve worked in the User Experience group at Hilton. Hilton is one of the most highly regarded brands in the global hospitality and travel industry. One of the most fun projects I’ve worked on at Hilton was as the design lead for the internal brand development of our group as Digital Design + Development [D3].

During our concept explorations, we concluded that [D3] (D cubed) seemed to be the perfect geeky tribute to our visual history.

We won big! In 2016, [D3] was awarded In-House Agency of the Year by the In-House Agency Forum (ihaf).

The Memphis office had been previously nicknamed El Cubo Oscuro or, The Dark Cube, due to the unscrewing of our office standard faire fluorescent lights.

Our office conference room became “El Cubo”.

Along with cube desk lamps, seen at top, I created three colored acrylic and Metem wall signs and desktop name plates using restaurant number stands.

Our temporary tattoos read “think, create, make”—a mantra driven by our three disciplines of architecture, creative and development.

[D3] creates delightful user experiences for our guests at some of the world’s most distinguished hotels and resorts. Check out a few of our websites for, Waldorf Astoria Arizona Biltmore, the Hilton Sedona and Tru by Hilton.

In late 2017, we freshened up the [D3] brand with a new name and color palette aligned closer to Hilton’s latest brand standards. Here’s a fun video that I wrote, designed and art directed to reveal the change—quickly and masterfully put together by my friend and co-worker Jody Mackenzie. Turn up your volume for best effect.
